I set up this site in response to something a friend of mine told me about Topps, the company who owns those wonderful pieces of plastic crack that we all love to hate, Heroclix. Maybe it’s just hearsay (this is the Internet after all), but as I understand it, they have decided that in order for the game to continue to grow, they have to retire previous sets from tournament play. That’s right... that means all those boxes of clix that you spent your lunch (rent?) money on… are soon to be somewhat useless if you want to play in a Wizkids sanctioned tournament. Which simply sucks.
So I sat and thought and thought (well maybe not THAT much) as to how best to solve this problem. I have a fairly sizable collection currently and so do a number of my friends. It only took a few moments to realize, that the only thing we could really do, was organize our own tournaments. And so “P.H.A.T.” was born. Mind you, I hate the use of the word “phat” as much as the next semi-literate primate, but it just made such a nice abbreviation that I had to go with it. It stands for “Pirate Heroclix Alternative Tournaments” (Originally, the “A” was “Assault”, but I think this fits a lot better.) What I envision when I think of P.H.A.T., is not some group of trolls who are angry and ready to set flame to those producers of our beloved (and detested) toys. I picture a community of like-minded gamers who simply refuse to let our figures be swept into dusty collectors bin, where they will set and deteriorate in value as people realize they really aren’t that cool if you can’t play with them. (Also, we get to say "Arr!" a lot! Yay, Pirates!) I see groups of players who not only feel the desire to play officially sanctioned games, but also some ideas that the brilliant minds at Wizkids might not be so hot on passing along. Here's a simple example.
Anyway, that’s my idea. If you want to contact me, I can be emailed here |
